Do I need a passport to go to Costa Rica ?

A valid passport is mandatory to enter Costa Rica . Your passport must NOT have an expiration date of 6 months or less. If it does, you will not be allowed to enter the country.


Do I need a visa to go to Costa Rica ?

USA , Canada and most European countries do NOT require a Visa to enter the country. Please check with your embassy prior to arranging your trip to avoid disappointment.


Do I need an international driver�s license to drive in Costa Rica ?
No, you are allowed to drive with the driver�s license you have for up to 90 days.


What is the difference between the rain forest and the cloud forest?
The rainforest receives abundant, year round rainfall, the cloud forest has an almost permanent cloud cover of the foliage which deposits moisture directly onto the leaves of the trees and plants, creating humidity. The flora and fauna are completely different within the two types of forest.

Is the water drinkable in Costa Rica ?
The water is potable in most areas of the country, however it is recommended to buy bottled water which is inexpensive.

What is the currency in Costa Rica ?
The Costa Rican currency is called the Colon . US dollars are widely accepted with various establishments. There is a Money Exchange at the International Airport .

All major credit cards are widely accepted by most establishments. ATM machines are conveniently located throughout the country.

What kind of inoculations do I have to take to Costa Rica ?
There are no specific vaccinations required to enter Costa Rica .

The outlets are 110V, with standard US two prong plugs. Equipment with standard US plugs will work.

Do you have to pay a departure tax when you leave Costa Rica ?
Yes, the departure tax is $26. You can be pay in US Dollars, colones or with a major credit card at the International Airport .

Are the national parks wheel chair accessible?
The Poas Volcano National Park is the only one that offers access for wheel chairs.

If I decided to stay longer, can I get a visa while I am there?
As a tourist you are allowed to stay for up to 90 days. If you stay beyond the 90 days you are illegal and could be deported and not allowed to return to Costa Rica on a permanent basis.

What should I bring when going to the rain forest?
All you need is insect repellent, long trousers or jeans, a rain coat with a hood and waterproof hiking boots.
